Nelly Furtado returns with new dance track “Eat Your Man”
Nelly Furtado shares her first single in two years, with "Eat Your Man", which was produced by Dom Dolla.
The collaboration comes after Furtado performed with Dom Dolla at Australia’s Beyond the Valley Festival on New Year’s Eve in 2022.
"Meeting Dom has been an absolute blessing,” Furtado said about working with Dolla. “We have a real creative synergy and trust when we work together - we hear music in a similar way and I am super inspired by his live shows. He’s reminded me how much fun music can be and for that I am grateful."
“Nelly first reached out to me after we were both booked to play Beyond The Valley Festival,” Dolla added. “She’d discovered my music not long before and was into what she heard. We immediately hit it off after hanging out and she mentioned that she was looking to start writing a bunch of new records and would love my input as a songwriter/producer. After a few days of writing she mentioned she would love to work on a club record together, and we began to put some ideas down. Not long after, "Eat Your Man" was born.
In an interview with Variety, Nelly Furtado revealed that she has been making music "non-stop" for the past year, in the way that she best enjoys: "Late nights, space to create wildly and loads of community and collaboration.
She goes on to say that the album is pop-leaning, influenced by styles of music that she loves: "My album touches on dance – I did a record with SG Lewis that I adore. T-Minus produced my Bomba Estereo song. T-Minus is a beast! I am proud of that record. One of my favorite tunes is produced by Wonda Gurl – I love her energy.”
Last year, at Drake's OVO Presents: All-Canadian Northstars concert at Toronto's History venue, the Canadian star linked up with Furtado to perform "I'm Like a Bird". She went on to say how he inspired her to make another album: “I met Drake a year ago and we had some deep conversations about life and art and he blew up my head reminding me what a valuable artist I am and told me to ‘boss up’ and make new music, and I listened. I couldn’t say no when he invited me on stage, I had to be brave and boss up and start the next chapter.”
