MUNA discuss sharing post-show rituals with boygenius
In a recent conversation with Proud Radio host Hattie Collins, MUNA discussed going on tour with Taylor Swift and boygenius.
Following the 2022 release of their third studio album, MUNA, the trio have had the biggest year of their career thus far. After signing with Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory Records, and introducing the album with the queer anthem, "Silk Chiffon", they've appeared on numerous talk shows, and shared the stages with the likes of Lorde, Rina Sawayama, and Paramore.
As well as their own sold-out tours across the world, they've supported both boygenius and Taylor Swift for multiple dates on their respective tours. MUNA made their debut on The Eras tour in Arlington, Texas, in March and performed across multiple dates before their final show in Denver Colorado in July.
Now, speaking to Hattie Collins, Josette Maskin revealed that the band became addicted to lollipops whilst playing on The Eras Tour. "In the booth that you can watch the show from, there's a big thing of lollipops and so literally after the show, we go watch Taylor (Swift) perform and each eat about, at least I would eat about three lollipops," they said.
Recalling their show with boygenius at Gunnersbury Park, Katie Gavin revealed that she shares a post-show ritual with Phoebe Bridgers. "One of my favourite post-show nights... we just went back to boygenius' dressing room and they were having their post-show. Phoebs was having her post-show meal, which we both do."
She shared that she doesn't often eat before shows because she's jumping around too much, so she is always looking forward to post-show food. MUNA have previously been vocal about living quiet lives, and not being ones to party too much. As Naomi McPherson adds: "We live very structured and boring lives most of the time. I think we do not go out, we don't party. We're so boring"
"Being in spaces where you can decompress together, I think there's a shift in the mentality," Gavin continues. "Of course there's an impulse once you have the adrenaline to keep going up, but it's nice to be with your homies and just go into [decompress mode]. I think a way to accept that you need to have the come down is have it be nice and comforting. And so I have a fond memory of just having sweet post-show conversation with them and then getting to talk to Hayden [Ethel Cain]."
