mui zyu unveils new single “sparky” featuring lei, e (formerly Emmy The Great)
London-based artist mui zyu has shared “sparky,” as the third single to preview from her forthcoming second album, nothing or something to die for.
On the track, Eva Liu shares: "sparky is a song about welcoming simple happinesses in to your world, even in the face of awfulness. It also plays with different ideas of what 'happiness' is, and observes the strange pursuit of endlessly chasing it, often looking in the wrong places, often at your own physical and mental expense. the song is named after the dog 'Sparky' from the opening of David Lynch's Blue Velvet who is the perfect image of joyfulness-biting water from a hose in front of their dead owner."
The track comes on the heels of "everything to die for" which followed her debut full-length, Rotten Bun for an Eggless Century.
"Sparky,” features lei, e (Emma Lee Moss formerly Emmy The Great), a musician and artist who muiz yu (AKA Eva Liu) has looked up to for years, opened up for at some special shows and sung Cantonese covers with at the Hackney Chinese Community Centre.
The single’s accompanying visual features the central motif/character from the video to previous single “the mould” which was created by 3D artist and fellow Dama Scout member Danny Grant through toying with VR sculpting techniques.
"sparky" is out now. mui zyu's second album, nothing or something to die for, is set for release on 24 May via Father/Daughter.
