MP Lucy Frazer who made Scots slaves joke becomes Culture Secretary
Lucy Frazer, an MP who previously made a joke about Scots being sold into slavery in the House of Commons, has replaced Michelle Donelan as Culture Secretary.
Frazer, a Conservative MP for South East Cambridgeshire that was first elected in May 2015, has been promoted to Culture Secretary by Rishi Sunak, replacing Michelle Donelan. Frazer's official role is now the UK’s Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport, after the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport role was split, with Donelan leading the newly-formed Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
The new UK Culture secretary previously apologised after making a joke in the House of Commons back in 2015. The National reports that she said, "It is the home of Oliver Cromwell who defeated the Scots at Dunbar, incorporated Scotland into his Protectorate, and transported the Scots as slaves to the colonies."
