Moses Sumney covers Billie Holiday's "I'll Be Seeing You"
Moses Sumney has shared a new cover of Billie Holiday's “I’ll Be Seeing You".
Sumney’s take on the ballad appears in the latest episode of the new series A Small Light. The show is based on the life of Miep Gies – the woman who helped hide Anne Frank and her family in her Amsterdam attic. Este Haim is the executive music producer on the series, and has curated a soundtrack which features covers by her sister Danielle Haim, Kamasi Washington, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, and Weyes Blood.
Two songs from the soundtrack will arrive on streaming services each week, which started with Doris Day’s “Till We Meet Again” by Danielle Haim and Charlie Parker’s “Cheryl” by Kamasi Washington earlier this month.
Weyes Blood recorded a new cover of the jazz standard “When You’re Smiling"; Angel Olsen shared her rendition of “My Reverie” for the show – first made famous by Larry Clinton & His Orchestra with singer Patti Duggan and later popularised by Ella Fitzgerald – whilst Van Etten teamed up with The Sopranos and The White Lotus actor Michael Imperioli for a version of the Ink Spots’ “I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire".
In addition to his new musical endeavours, Moses Sumney has been cast in Ti West's new horror film, MaXXXine, alongside Halsey. The forthcoming film is the third instalment of West’s X film series – which includes X and Pearl.
He is also set to star in The Idol – The Weeknd's upcoming HBO series – which was co-written with Euphoria's Sam Levinson, who will direct the series.
A Small Light: Songs From the Limited Series, is out today (May 23). Composer Ariel Marx released her original score for the show last week.
