Morgan Harper-Jones announces new EP, Journal Versions
Rochdale-born singer-songwriter Morgan Harper-Jones has announced her forthcoming EP Journal Versions, featuring new single "Leaves (Journal Version)".
The brand new single is a reworked and stripped-back version of a track taken from her debut record Up To The Glass.
“I wrote this song with Iain Archer while I wasn’t feeling upbeat about letting go at all! But the song kind of snapped me out of my moping and helped me conjure up the energy I needed to let go," says Harper-Jones. "I think there’s loads of great songs like that for breakups, my go-to’s are Believe by Cher and loads of Lizzo songs…I think turning to music to get into that empowered state when you need to do something bold like setting a boundary or cutting ties and letting go so you can move on is so magical. But that’s just one side of the “letting go” coin…There are still moments where it hurts and you need to cry it out, so this version of Leaves is for the other side of that letting go process.”
This version is the first release from Morgan's Journal Versions, an acoustic EP of fan-favourite tracks. Each song in the EP presents a new, more minimalistic take on her previous works, hinting at a more introspective and organic musical direction. The series allows Morgan to reconnect with the emotional core of her music, offering listeners a glimpse of her evolution as both a songwriter and performer. By stripping away the original production, she embraces a more personal and direct sound, inviting fans into a deeper, more unfiltered musical experience
