Mocky signs to Stones Throw shares his cover of Dusty Springfield’s "Just a Little Lovin'"

Los Angeles-based artist and producer, Mocky, has announced his signing to Stones Throw, alongside releasing a cover of "Just A Little Lovin'" by Dusty Springfield.

“‘Just a Little Lovin’ has an important message that we could all hear more often," Mocky, says. "Leslie Feist introduced me to the song while we were recording her album Multitudes. I loved the original version – it’s a waltz in 3/4, but I found a way to flip it over a 4/4 backbeat which brought the melody into a new realm.”

Hoping to capture the essence of humanity in an increasingly artificial and digital world, Mocky gathered a group of friends and collaborators around one microphone in his garage. They sang together a cappella while he recorded straight to an old tape recorder.

Directed by Vice Cooler, the accompanying video is inspired by old silent movies starring Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, and follows a day in the life of a “monsterish semi-human creature” who wanders around LA and tries to connect with people who ignore and shun him, until eventually he finds someone to dance with under the sunset.

Originally from Canada and now based in LA, Mocky has produced for Feist, Kelela, Moses Sumney, and Vulfpeck; been sampled by GZA, Kanye West and Cordae; and even composed an award-winning score for Shinichirō Watanabe’s Carole and Tuesday anime.

Mocky's cover of "Just A Little Lovin'" by Dusty Springfield is out now.
