MOBO Awards introduces new Alternative and Dance/Electronic categories for 2022
This year's MOBO Awards features two brand new categories - Best Alternative Music Act and Best Dance/Electronic Act.
Earlier today (11 November) the full 2022 MOBO Awards nominations were revealed, and featured two new categories for Alternative and Dance/Electronic acts. The Alternative category has been added nearly two years after Nova Twins shared an open letter to the MOBO Awards asking for the introduction of a Rock/Alternative category to the awards for 2021.
Following the launch of the Best Alternative Music Act for this year's MOBOs, Nova Twins, alongside Big Joanie, Bob Vylan, Skunk Anansie, Loathe and Kid Bookie have been nominated for the first ever edition of the MOBO Awards' Alternative award.
On Instagram, Nova Twins wrote, "What a moment this is, it’s a massive win for the Alt. community. To think back to 2 years ago, when we wrote our open letter to now, being here celebrating this new category alongside all the amazing artists who help push the genre forward, as well Kanya and the MOBOs team. Working alongside Kanya, we have been in awe of how fiercely she fought for what she believes in, while keeping the MOBOs thriving and evolving. We hope this new category helps give future artists more options, allowing them to be whatever musician they want to to be, be it in Hip Hop, Rock, Pop, Punk, R&B or anywhere in between, the choice is theirs."
Knucks leads this year's nomination with five across Album of the Year, Best Male Act, Video of the Year and Best Hip-Hop Act, while Little Simz follows close behind with four nominations across the same categories.
The 2022 MOBO Awards will take place on 30 November at Wembley's OVO Arena. Tickets are on sale now via mobo.com/tickets.
