M(h)aol return with new single, "Snare"
Irish intersectional feminist band M(h)aol, now a trio — Constance Keane (She/Her), Jamie Hyland (She/Her), and Sean Nolan (He/Him) — have returned with new single, "Snare".
“‘Snare’ is about countless conversations I’ve had since my first drum lesson on my ninth birthday about how bizarre it is that I play that instrument, or how I should be doing it differently,” recalls lead vocalist and drummer Constance Keane. “The idea of society gendering an inanimate object like a drum kit, when it’s something that brings me so much joy and release, has always frustrated me hugely, and I thought it was time to sing about it.”
Applying a DIY ethos to all aspects of the band, their debut album Attachment Styles and its predecessor, the Gender Studies EP, were originally released on TULLE, an independent women-led record label co-founded by Constance. The album was recorded, mixed, mastered, and produced by Jamie Hyland, who is at work mastering M(h)aol’s forthcoming 2025 album.
"Snare" is out now via Merge Records.
