MF Tomlinson reworks Rozi Plain's "Painted the Room"
Following her widely praised new album Prize, Rozi Plain unveils the first batch in a series of remixes from friends from around the world.
“I'm a big Rozi fan from way back so jumped at the chance to do this!," says MF Tomlinson. "Some of the delays on the synths reminded me of afrobeat snare patterns, and I heard a chance for a Verocai-style arrangement around that descending keys line. Here's the result! As usual, I couldn't have done it without the MFs - Ben Manning (bass) Kayvon Nabijou (sax and keys) Ed Grimshaw (drums) Gail Tasker (flute) & Connie Chatwin (vocals).”
"Painted the Room" reworked by MF Tomlinson is one of the first in a series of remixes on the compilation which will be titled Bonus Prize. Rozi Plain also shares the United Freedom Collective remix today.
Speaking of their version, they say: "I’ve been a big fan of Rozi’s music for a long time so it was a real honour to be asked to remix this track. There were a few standout features in the original that I wanted to make the focal points of the remix… the vocal of course, and those beautiful wavey synth lines. Once the structure’s in place it’s about having some fun layering with whatever I can lay my hands on in the studio - mostly my Amazonian teak flute in this instance.”
