MF DOOM's cause of death has been revealed
Three years on from his passing, MF DOOM's cause of death has been revealed, and his wife has revealed her concerns over the care he was given whilst being treated in hospital.
Jasmine Dumile, the wife of MF DOOM has revealed that her late husband passed away from a rare and severe reaction to blood pressure medication, due to a condition known as angiodema.
The British-born rapper named Daniel Dumile died on 31 October 2020 aged 49. Until now, the cause of his death has not been disclosed.
In an inquiry into his death, new details were revealed on the circumstances that led to his death. His wife had explained that MF DOOM suffered from numerous health conditions including high blood pressure and kidney disease. MF DOOM was prescribed angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors to treat his high blood pressure, he developed a severe reaction after two doses, which left him hospitalised at St James' Hospital in Leeds, due to his tongue and throat beginning to swell. At the hospital, he was quickly placed on a respirator.
Dumile raised a number of concerns about her husband's treatment at St James's Hospital and claimed he had been unable to alert medical staff to his deteriorating condition as his 'buzzer' was out of reach. She believes negligence by the staff at St James’s Hospital contributed to her husband’s eventual death, specifically alleging that medical staff failed to check on her husband frequently, and were hours late administrating a medication.
She said her husband had phoned her in distress from the hospital as his swelling was getting worse and he was having trouble breathing. She claimed he had been placed in a room containing an 'old metal desk' and books, saying the room appeared to be "a hospital room a very long time ago," she told Wakefield Coroner's Court.
The inquest heard that on 21 October Daniel had complained that he couldn't breathe and tried to get off his hospital trolley before he collapsed and suffered respiratory arrest.
The enquiry into MF DOOM's death is still ongoing.
