Mdou Moctar further preview forthcoming album with new single, "Imouhar"
Mdou Moctar have released new single, "Imouhar", which is taken from the group’s forthcoming album, Funeral For Justice.
‘Imouhar’ calls on the Tuareg people to which the band belong to preserve their Tamasheq language - it's at risk of dying out, and Moctar is one of the few in his community who knows how to write it. "People here are just using French," says Mdou. "They're starting to forget their own language. We feel like in a hundred years no one will speak good Tamasheq, and that's so scary for us."
The quartet embark on European and US tour dates this summer. UK dates include Glastonbury, End Of The Road, Manchester Psych Fest, Moseley Folk Festival, as well as headline shows in London, Glasgow, Newcastle and Leeds.
Funeral For Justice will be released on 3 May via Matador. For more information on their forthcoming live dates, visit mdoumoctar.com.
