Max Cooper, Modeselektor, Marie Davidson and more lead ROBOT Festival lineup

The left-field electronic festival returns to the northern Italian city from 10–13 October. Since its inception, ROBOT has reflected and examined the protean nature of electronic music and digital art, “as well as the people who consume it.” This year’s edition centres on the theme: Transition – Gender, Digital, Green.

Performing in a variety of venues from the historic Palazzo Re Enzo to the “temporary urban regeneration space” DumBO, this year’s artist are led by Max Cooper, who, fittingly, will be bringing his new 3D audio-visual show. There will also be live sets from KOKOKO!, Drew McDowall, Fennesz and rave-punk duo Deli Girls.

DJ sets will come from Mabe Fratti, TOCCORORO, LCY and more, while on the opening night the Stockholm-based organist and composer Kali Malone will also perform an intimate organ set at the Basilica di S. Maria dei Servi.

Acclaimed producer Marta Salogni (Björk, Depech Mode, Romy, MIA) will be premiering her new show with collaborator Francesco Fonassi, which blends tape loops and electronics while former Coil and Psychic TV member Drew McDowall will present his new album. Scandinavian experimentalists Maria W Horn and Mats Erlandsson will perform their posthumous score for one of Andy Warhol's films.

Since its founding in 2008, ROBOT has hosted iconic artists like Alessandro Cortini, Avalon Emerson, Ryūichi Sakamoto, Alva Noto, Caterina Barbieri, Ben Frost, Holly Herndon, James Blake, Jon Hopkins, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Floating Points. Over the years, the festival has become a cornerstone for a passionate and diverse community, celebrating both historical and new venues throughout Bologna, a city historically known as a pivotal center for Italian counterculture.
