Master Peace announces his debut album, How To Make A Master Peace
Master Peace links up with Georgia on the brand new single, "I Might Be Fake", and announces his debut album How To Make A Master Peace.
Produced by Julian Bunetta and Matt Schwartz, Master Peace says this record, which is inspired in part by the late nights and parties of his teenage past, is “simultaneously of the past and the future”.
Today’s release, "I Might Be Fake" premiered last night on Clara Amfo’s show on BBC Radio 1, and is shared alongside its video, directed by Freddie Cattaneo, which sees Master Peace causing havoc in the traditionally white working class space of greyhound racing. "I Might Be Fake" follows previous single "LOO SONG".
“"I Might Be Fake" is a letter to myself about imposter syndrome. As an artist I feel like you’re always reinventing yourself and also trying to find a balance between being yourself and trying to be like somebody else," says Master Peace about the brand new single. "I was inspired by early 2000 hits like Body Rox’s "Yeah Yeah" and "Perfect" by Princess Superstar – those songs really did a lot for me when I was younger, especially the synths on those records. I wanted to create a floor filler record, especially with the wonderful vocals from Georgia who I’ve been a fan of for years!”
“My debut album, How To Make A Master Peace, is definitely the most alternative body of work I’ve created to date. I wanted to create a record people wouldn’t expect from me. From a musical standpoint, I drew influences from Indie Sleaze & Indie Dance acts such as Friendly Fires, Justice, LCD Soundsystem and early Calvin Harris. But beyond this, I also found inspiration in the soundtracks to some of my favourite shows: Skins, Misfits and even Waterloo Road," says Master Peace.
"All of these shows touch on adolescence, love, regret, friendship, culture and character building; which also happen to be the main themes of the album. Even though I’ve nodded to these topics before, I’ve never approached them in such depth and with so much vulnerability. For this project, I wanted to create a soundscape to soundtrack nightlife and partying - for me, these can be youthful yet transformational spaces. In terms of my creative process, I didn’t use any old demos on the project - I started each track from scratch.”
Master Peace is about to embark on tour as the support act for The Streets’ upcoming UK and Ireland run of shows, taking in fifteen dates and culminating in a show at London’s Alexandra Palace on 16 November. He has also announced his own headline tour set for March 2024, which spans eleven dates taking in a show at Scala on 19 March.
