Marlon Williams shares new outing "Don't Go Back"
Ahead of his My Boy album arriving this Friday (9 September), Marlon Williams has shared a final taster of the record titled "Don't Go Back".
"Don't Go Back" is accompanied by a self-directed video, and will appear on Williams' My Boy album with earlier singles "Easy Does It", "River Rival", "Thinking Of Nina" and "My Boy".
"There are a lot of New Romantic influences in "Don’t Go Back"," Williams explains. "I love the songwriting and over-the-topness of bands like Duran Duran. I was too young to have a sense of it the first time around, but at least to the modern ear there’s a silliness to the pathos in that music that definitely had an influence on the tone of the record."
My Boy will follow 2020's Plastic Boquet collaborative album with Kacy & Clayton, and will be his first solo album since 2018's Make Way for Love.
In July Williams covered Sandy Denny's "It'll Take A Long Time" live in session for Best Fit.
"Don't Go Back" is out now. Marlon Williams' My Boy album will arrive via Dead Oceans on Friday (9 September), and is available to pre-order now. He'll play London's KOKO on 26 October. Visit marlonwilliams.co.nz for tickets.
