Maple Glider has shared the new single, “Two Years”
Singer/songwriter Tori Zietsch – AKA Maple Glider – has shared a new single, “Two Years”, which is taken from her forthcoming second album, I Get Into Trouble.
"Two Years" follows on from the release of last month's double singles, “You At The Top Of The Driveway” and “You’re Gonna Be A Daddy”, which came on the heels of “Dinah”, and “Don’t Kiss Me”.
"I remember having the need to write this song at the moment I was experiencing these uncertain feelings, but being unable to do so in private," Zietsch says. "This was a time of life where I got swept up into the clouds, and didn’t feel the ground for a long time. Even listening to the song now I can feel the self-doubt in my lyrics, the indecision in the music, the attempt to find the sweetness amongst what was ultimately an incredibly claustrophobic experience.”
I Get Into Trouble is a thematic expansion of Maple Glider’s 2021 debut LP To Enjoy is the Only Thing, going into greater and clearer detail, as she delves back into her Christian childhood while deconstructing her relationship to her body, alongside concepts of consent and shame.
Throughout the album, she draws parallels between religion and sexuality in novelistic detail, before landing on a note of hopeful optimism, and embracing a new life of peacefulness. “This album feels more like an opening up because there are things I wasn't feeling ready to publicly share through songs, but now I finally feel ready,” she says.
"Two Years" is out now. Maple Glider's forthcoming album, I Get Into Trouble, arrives on 13 October, and is available to pre-order.
