Madrid's Mad Cool Sunset event, which was due to take place on 10 September, has been cancelled after organisers couldn't find a suitable headliner to replace Rage Against the Machine.

The inaugural edition of Mad Cool Sunset was due to host Rage Against the Machine, Biffy Clyro, Run The Jewels, Lucy Dacus, Glass Animals, Kurt Vile & The Violators, Yard Act, Nova Twins and more, but after Rage Against the Machine cancelled their European tour dates earlier this month, organisers have shared a statement cancelling the one-day music event.

"After the recent cancellation of Rage Against the Machine, and despite the efforts made to find the best solution in this short period of time, we are sorry to announce that Mad Cool Sunset's organisation has decided to cancel Mad Cool Sunset 2022," the statement reads. "We understand that the cancellation of Mad Cool's Sunset main headliner has meant a disappointment and a change of plans for many of the attendees, since being part of RATM'S return, was in many cases, the reason why many of the you purchased tickets."

The statement revealed that organisers are in "continuous contact with the Californian band in order to have them back as soon as possible," and the decision to cancel has been made "after evaluating all the options and with the clear and strong objective of being as honest and transparent as possible both with the public and with the rest of the bands that were going to be part of this new Mad Cool Sunset Festival."

Those who purchased tickets have the option to exchange their Mad Cool Sunset ticket for a three-day pass to Andalucía Big Festival in Malaga, which takes place from 8-10 September.
