Lorde tells Washington DC fans she's "happy to be a DC meme" after revealing she swam in the Potomac River
Lorde told fans after her Washington DC show last night (29 August) that she's "happy to be a DC meme" after they appeared to discuss the issues with water quality in the Potomac River, where Lorde said she had been swimming.
The Potomac River hasn't got the best reputation due to having issues with water quality levels, bacteria and other forms of contamination, but that didn't seem to stop Lorde, who revealed to the crowd at her Washington DC show last night (29 August) that earlier that day she was "lying" in the river.
According to FOX 5 DC, the water quality has improved, resulting in local people pushing for the swimming ban to be lifted, but swimming still isn't permitted.
Lorde still swam in the river though, probably without knowing about the ban, and the Washington DC crowd let her know it wasn't such a great decision through anxious laughter and cheers when she admitted to her swim spot. Lorde told the crowd, "I was thinking today, I was lying in the Potomac River ... I love getting to swim in water where I'm playing, it makes me feel like I know you a bit better."

After the show, Lorde spoke to some fans, who seemed to bring up the concerns with the water quality. Lorde responded, "Oh. I think all is well. But now I know why you were laughing. I’m happy to be a DC meme you know."
