Lorde confirms that new songs she debuted at Boardmasters Festival are not from an upcoming project
On Friday evening (11 August), Lorde played a headline set a Boardmasters Festival, in Cornwall.
Performing a set which spanned her back catalogue, and included hits such as, "Royals", "Tennis Court", "Buzzcut Season", and "Ribs", she also snuck in a cover of Disclosure's "Magnets", and two never-before-heard songs, much to the delight of her fans.
Commenting on the video of "Silver Moon" on YouTube, one fan said: "It reminded me of melodrama straight away and also the visuals and some of the vibes remind me of Taylor Swift’s Midnights, I’m a hundred percent sure she worked with Jack Antonoff again."
In an Instagram post shared after she’d played at Øya Festival in Norway, she had said: “After the show we went swimming…these times are beautiful and they freak me out and there’s so much to tell you,” she wrote. “No this is not the start of anything out there, just want u to know there’s a light on inside me…show it to you soon.”
When a fan commented that Lorde was releasing a new single in a few days, she responded by saying, “Lmao NO”.

"Silver Moon", and "Invisible Ink", were speculated to be a selection of live songs from follow-up to her 2021 album, Solar Power – her first album in four years since 2017’s Melodrama – but unfortunately Lorde quickly quelled those rumours.
Replying to a fan who said she was lying when she said that the songs weren't taken from an upcoming project, she said: “Literally just decided to set these free from my laptop .... but they're not bad eh... beautiful and fun for fests I thought."
Earlier this year, speaking to Ensemble Magazine about whether it'll be another four-year wait for her next album, Lorde said, "You know, it’s my intention, it’s always my intention, to move as quickly as I fucking can and then that ends up taking different forms. But this one, I really am trying to. I don’t want to wait, you know, so take from that what you will."
No further details have been shared about when the songs were written and if they will ever be officially released.
