London's Oval Space license revoked following alleged shooting
London's Oval Space venue has lost its license after an alleged shooting took place on the dancefloor in August.
The incident reportedly took place on 30 August at an event celebrating Notting Hill Carnival, and a licensing committee concluded earlier this week that the venue's license should be revoked due to the alleged shooting, as well as previous disturbances including fights, gangs and more.
Mixmag reports that although the venue no longer has a license, Oval Space does have the opportunity to appeal the decision.
In the hearing, Oval Space owner Dean James said, "I’m ashamed of what’s happened at our venue. I apologise to the police and I apologise to the committee. It was a catastrophic failure of the security company, we know that. There are some mitigating circumstances - it’s the most difficult operating environment that I’ve ever known in the business in 22 years."
Pitchfork Music Festival London was due to host an event on 10 November at Oval Space, but it's now been relocated to Village Underground.
