L’objectif announce their forthcoming EP, The Left Side
Leeds quartet L’objectif have announced their forthcoming EP, The Left Side, and share new single "Puppy" with its accompanying video directed by Ethan Porter.
Speaking about the video, L’objectif say: “With a song name like ‘Puppy’ it seemed obvious that we would have to get dogs involved for the video. The original idea was to have the band as some kind of animal liberation front. Ethan was really into this idea, especially when we mentioned we wanted puppies in the video as you can imagine. That morning filming with those tiny dogs was the most content we have ever felt.”
Expanding on the track, frontman and producer Saul Kane says: “This song was the last song written on the EP and was finished relatively quickly. I suppose it’s kind of a pop song but despite the title, it’s actually pretty dark lyrically. It’s a song about desperation just sugarcoated in an indie dance tune, which is usually what you can expect with us lot. Saying that, it sounds like nothing we’ve done before at all…”
The Left Side is the latest body of work from the Iggy Pop-endorsed teens since the release of their acclaimed second EP, We Aren’t Getting Out But Tonight We Might, in summer 2022. With Saul at the creative helm, The Left Side is a mature and cerebral body of work with Saul once again writing and producing the entire EP (with co-production by Ali Chant (Yard Act, Katy J Pearson, Dry Cleaning) on "Conman" and "ITSA"). Written in Saul’s bedroom, the EP is a retrospective insight into the young band’s journey so far as they tie up their teenage years.
“It’s the closest we have been to knowing what picture we want to paint. It’s another window into the musical space we wish to explore, yet I think we’re closer to having our sound. I think the project signifies the end of a section in our lives, moving out from the haze of the moment and reflecting on our teenage years and all its chaos with more understanding," he explains.
Alongside the EP announcement and single release, L’objectif have also announced dates for their spring headline tour, which includes the capital’s George Tavern on 1 May, and The Brudenell Social Club Community Room in their hometown Leeds on 1 April.
The Left Side is set for release on 22 March via Chess Club Records, and is available to pre-order now.
