25 November 2024, 11:34 | Written by Tyler Damara Kelly

On Friday evening, Kendrick Lamar released the surprise album, GNX. On the release, he made reference to the likes of Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, and Nas.

Produced by Jack Antonoff, the new Kendrick Lamar album also contains collaborations with Kamasi Washington, and SZA who features on "Luther" and "Gloria". During the track, "Wacced Out Murals", Kendrick Lamar made reference to his Super Bowl Halftime Show, and online remarks that it should have been offered to Lil Wayne who comes from New Orleans.

Taking to his socials, at the time, Lil Wayne shared his thoughts on the matter, revealing the extent of his disappointment: “That hurt, it hurt a lot,” he said. “I thought there was nothing better that spot, on that stage, on that platform. It broke me, but I’m just trying to put myself back together.”

"I used to bump ‘Tha Carter 3,’ I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down," Lamar raps on the track. "Got the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me, all these n—s agitated, I’m just glad it’s on they faces".

Whilst Nas responded positively to the nod from Lamar ("Always inspired by my brother KL. Keeping the essence of this shit alive and at the forefront. Salute King!"), Lil Wayne was slightly less forthcoming to his own mention – "Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love".

GNX is out now. Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl performance will take place at The Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on 9 February 2025.
