Lil Nas X's "J Christ" video features Taylor Swift, Kanye West, and Barack Obama impersonators
Multiplatinum award-winning artist Lil Nas X is set to return with his first single in two years, "J Christ". The teaser for its accompanying video has revealed a plethora of familiar faces.
The forthcoming release, "J Christ" will be accompanied by Lil Nas X's debut self-directed video, and is the follow-up to his 2021 debut album, Montero. Lil Nas X has shared a teaser of the video, which shows a long queue of people ascending white steps, up to what can only be assumed as the pearly gates.
In the queue are a whole host of familiar faces including Mariah Carey, Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Oprah, Barack Obama, and Ed Sheeran, which is sure to ruffle some feathers, as since releasing the artwork for "J Christ", Lil Nas X has come under scrutiny online for using religious iconography.

In response to one user on X, formerly known as Twitter, who said: "I love him but I wish he’d aim higher than making noise by trolling judgmental Christians bc the artistry is actually there and, I dunno, he did this last promo round," Lil Nas X wrote a post stating: "the problem is y’all judge everything at face value. i’ve never released a visual without an underlying meaning and y’all know that. but since i’m a troll y’all discount my art as just “pissing ppl off”.
Another user compared his work to Lady Gaga and Madonna, writing: "IDC about you disrespecting religion but I feel like you’re just extra to be extra and yes, trolling. What Gaga did with Judas, Madonna with Like A Prayer, Nicki with Roman Holiday - There’s a sense of CLASS to it."
In response to this, Lil Nas X said: "the problem with a lot of yall gays is yall think im trying to be like gaga or madonna when in reality with all due respect idgaf what they did and im doing what i want with my career."
"J Christ" is set for release on 12 January, and is available to pre-save now.
