Lewis Capaldi shares health update and unveils extended edition of his second album
Six months after announcing his hiatus from music in order to focus on his health, Lewis Capaldi returned with an update as well as a surprise five-track release.
On New Year's Eve, Capaldi announced that an extended edition of Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent would be released as the clocks struck midnight. "Strangers", "A Cure For Minds Unwell", "Someone I Could Die For", "The Ancient Art Of Always Fucking Up" and "Old Navy Blue" are the five bonus songs which were written during the original sessions for Capaldi's second album.
In a statement that begins with Capaldi admitting he has been overwhelmed by the support he has received since announcing his hiatus, and that he is seeing progress within his help now that he is consistently seeking professional help, he went on to say that he is "more excited than ever to return to doing what [he loves] at some point in the not too distant future".
"It’s mind-blowing to see the songs on this album still resonating with so many of you despite the fact I’ve not been out there promoting it or touring, it means the world to me," he continued, adding that prior to his hiatus, he had always planned on releasing an extended version of the album.
"After some back-and-forth about whether or not it was the right thing to do, I’ve decided it would be a shame for these extra five songs, which are so incredibly special to me, to sit on my hard drive, never to see the light of day."
Capaldi made a point that this is not his comeback. "For now I’m going to continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself, maybe writing some music and taking a moment to reflect on some of the most incredible years of my life," he explained. "I want to make absolutely sure I’m 100 per cent before getting back out there again properly for more shows and doing what I love more than anything."
