Lewis Capaldi announces his break from touring for the foreseeable future
Lewis Capaldi cancels all of his upcoming tour dates in order to "adjust to the impact" of his Tourette's syndrome.
Earlier this month, on 5 June, Lewis Capaldi shared a statement to his fans, announcing that he had to cancel all commitments in order to prioritise his health.
Acknowledging that he wanted to rest and take some time to recuperate ahead of his performance at Glastonbury Festival, his statement read: "I need to take the next three weeks to be Lewis from Glasgow, spend some time with my family and friends and do normal life things that are an important part of me feeling better.”
Whilst he performed on the Pyramid Stage, it was apparent that Capaldi was still suffering with the impact of his Tourette's diagnosis, as he lost his voice and relied on the crowd the help him get through the songs. Later in the set, he alluded to the fact that he would be needing to take another period of time away.
“I recently took three weeks off. It was a break for my mental health. I wanted to come back and do Glasto ’cause it’s so incredible, so I just wanna thank you for watching us. I was shit scared but you’ve really made me feel at ease," he told the crowd. “I’m really sorry. I hope the Eavises will have me back on, even though it’s been a bit of a shit show. I feel like I’ll be taking another wee break for the next few weeks, you might not see me for the rest of the year. But when I do come back and I do see you I hope you’re up for watching.”
Despite being one of the kindest individuals in the music industry, Lewis Capaldi has unfortunately endured an adverse reaction. It's rather frustrating, but I urge you to watch this clip that showcases his challenging battle with Tourette's during a recent Glastonbury concert. pic.twitter.com/ZBQeGngVEA

The Glastonbury crowd filling in for Lewis Capaldi when he needed help was such a beautiful moment. Anyone saying “it was heartbreaking” or “he shouldn’t have gone on” is seriously missing the point. Disability is not a bad thing to be hidden. It exists alongside success and joy.

In a new statement to his fans, Capaldi addresses the support he was given on Saturday afternoon: "Hello everyone. First of all, thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards," and goes on to explain that he needs more time to look after his mental health in the hopes that he will eventually be able to continue performing live.
"The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it any easier to write, but I'm very sorry to let you know I'm going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future. I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out," he said. "But the truth is I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come."

"I'd like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who have been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this past year when I've needed it more than ever," he continued, before noting that he wants nothing more than to be healthy enough to be able to perform again.
"I'm so incredibly sorry to everyone who ha planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve. Playing for you every night is all I've ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I'll be back as soon as I possibly can."
