Zuzu: "I like trying out new material on the cats..."
Liverpudlian singer/songwriter Zuzu answers a few questions for us ahead of her set at our new music festival next week.
It's still early days for the 22-year-old artist, but on her debut single she's proved that she's as exciting as they come. Blurring sun-smooched guitars with silvery harmonies, the serrated wit of Courtney Barnett, and mountains of pep, Zuzu's first offering has all the ingredients for brilliance.
Zuzu's inescapably charming tour de force "Get Off" made our 50 Best Songs Of 2016 list - check out what else made the cut.
Have a listen to the blistering cut below, and get to know Zuzu a bit better after.
Could you introduce yourself for us please?
I’m Zuzu, 22 from Liverpool!
What do you try to do with your music and how do you achieve this?
I suppose I write songs as an outlet... it seems to be working.
Can you tell us what musical and non-musical influences have shaped your sound?
Musically I take a lot of influence from the '60s and '90s. Love bands like The Supremes, The Beatles, Bright Eyes, and Grandaddy. Non-musically I like trying out new material on the cats, they’re hyper-critical.
What should people expect from your Five Day Forecast show?
Guitars and more guitars!
What are you working on now/next?
Currently just getting everything together for the next single "What You Want" which is out very soon...
How is 2017 shaping up? What are you looking forward to next year?
It’s looking good! We’re super looking forward to playing The Roundhouse for BBC Introducing in February!
