Younghusband announce new album with lead single "Translation"
London's Younghusband are back with their first new music in four years, "Translation", revealed alongside news of their next album, Swimmers.
The group's new single is their first since their 2015 second album Dissolver. Expanding on the single, frontman Euan Hinshelwood says, "It's open to interpretation, but looking back on that period of time I guess it's a song about change and retreat. And about a short moment of that time. A stubborn moment when you want to push everything away for a second and work out what element is tripping you up."
Younghusband's forthcoming album Swimmers is produced and recorded by the band themselves at an old barn in Greenwich,
On the forthcoming record, Hinshelwood explains, "There were so many things we liked and disliked about our first two records. We thought we’d try and find a middle ground. I wanted to bring us back to that place between the first and second record but with more confidence in songwriting. Maybe being a bit more extreme - a bit more emotional extremity and openness."
He adds, "A big theme has been moving south of the river into open spaces. In Greenwich there's a lot of open space and there's a water theme running through this record. I've spent a lot of time by the river down here and it's been quite a reflective time. Emptiness keeps popping up but I feel that there's a real optimism too. There's a theme of optimistic emptiness. That feeling when you know that something good is coming or could come but you're not sure where it is. That strange surge of optimism you get."
