Young Fathers win Mercury Prize
Young Fathers were awarded this year's Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize during a ceremony held at the Roundhouse in London earlier this evening.
The alternative hip-hop group beat the likes of Damon Albarn, Jungle, bookies' favourite FKA Twigs and more to claim the Award (and accompanying £20,000 cash prize) for their album album Dead - which also picked up the Scottish Album of The Year Award earlier this year. Read out review here.
Given to a UK or Irish-born band/artist deemed responsible for the best album of the past year, Mercury Prize alumni include Alt-J, PJ Harvey, the xx and James Blake - who won last year for his album Overgrown.
Some might argue the real winners are the record sales, according to the BBC, with all but three nominees receiving a double-digit percentage increase on sales - and with Kate Tempest and GoGo Penguin more than doubling their sales.
