Yorkston/Thorne/Khan announce third album with lead single "Westlin’ Winds"
Yorkston/Thorne/Khan, the trio made up of James Yorkston, Jon Thorne, and Suhail Yusuf Khan, have announced their third album Navarasa : Nine Emotions with lead single "Westlin' Winds".
"Westlin' Winds" is the trio's first new single since their 2017 album Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars.
The new single opens with Act I of Robert Burns’ poem Now Westlin Winds. Khan says he sings "in Purbi, a specific dialect of old Hindi. I learnt the song." He adds that he translated it "by listening to various qawwali [Muslim devotional song] singers singing at Hazrat Nizammuddin’s dargah [shrine] in Delhi. Its source is Hazrat Amir Khusrau."
Their upcoming third LP is built around Navarasa - the nine emotions of the arts. Each song is linked to different emotions, including Shringara (love, beauty), Hasya (laughter, mirth, comedy), Raudra (anger), Karuna (sorrow, compassion or mercy), Bibhatsya (disgust), Bhayanaka (horror, terror), Veera (heroism, courage), Adbutha (surprise, wonder), and Shanta (peace, tranquillity).
