Yaya Bey previews new EP with second single "september 13th"
Yaya Bey, who became the first artist to sign to the recently relaunched Big Dada label last month, has released new cut "september 13th" as a second preview of her Things I Can’t Take With Me EP.
"september 13th" follows last month's lead single "fxck it then", which arrived on the same day that she was announced as the first signing to the relaunched Big Dada label.
The new track is teamed with a video directed by Morgan Powell and Michael Grant. Bey says the video is "inspired really by how the song made me feel when I would listen to it in my bedroom. I kept imaging poses which felt like a photoshoot theme would go best with the song. We added a love interest to give it the story it needed. The song is stripped down and really is just about a feeling and the video needed to be the same way."
She adds of the song, "September 13th is the day I realised the relationship I fought so hard for would never be the same."
The Things I Can’t Take With Me was an unexpected project that formed after Bey set out to record her next album. She explains, "[The album] is going to be about the journey home to self. But on the way, there’s all this shit I gotta let go of, just the things I can’t take with me."
Bey's upcoming EP will follow last year's Madison Tapes, and marks her second project that's been recorded during the pandemic.
