Wu-Tang Clan still arguing over new album, Raekwon publicly disses RZA
Things are never straight-forward in the world of the Wu-Tang Clan, are they? Yesterday, the group dropped a new single and hinted that their long-awaited 20th anniversary LP is finally on its way – and now, a day later, the in-fighting has started again.
The hip-hop outfit have been talking about upcoming album A Better Tomorrow for over a year, having already missed the actual 20 year milestone of their debut release.
Even with “Keep Watch” airing online yesterday, Raekwon decided to take to Twitter shortly after to post a message that read: “Keep dreaming”. Now, a Wu-Tang feature in Grantland has depicted the group as typically dysfunctional as ever.
In the article, Raekwon discusses several of his issues with A Better Tomorrow: most specifically his tension with band-leader RZA. “I would be the first one to say that we cannot leave everything in RZA’s hand no more,” he is quoted as saying. “He has done his job to the greatest of his ability when we were younger, but now every man plays an imperative role in this situation.”
This sharing of responsibility comes with its own downside too, it seems. “It’s like getting the United Nations to all agree on one fucking thing,” he adds. “Italy ain’t having it. Japan is on some shit. You know what I mean?”
Meanwhile, GZA has distanced himself from confirming that a new LP will even happen, saying: “It would be great to do another album, come back with a banger. But I don’t think we have anything to prove. We proved it already.”
