Wolf Alice unveil anthemic new single "Smile"
Wolf Alice have delivered their energetic new single "Smile", which lands as a second taster of their highly-anticipated third album Blue Weekend.
"Smile" arrives after their February lead outing "The Last Man On Earth", and sees the band offer a more anthemic taste of their third album.
The new track will be accompanied by a Jordan Hemingway-directed video that will premiere on YouTube at 7pm BST today (20 April).
Lead vocalist Ellie Rowsell says of the track, "This is one of the songs we wrote thinking that we would play it live. I miss that feeling of singing on stage. It’s like screaming into a pillow or something - you can get away with being more nasty. There’s a whole other part of me missing."
After heading to an Airbnb in Somerset, Wolf Alice recorded some demos in a converted church. Those demos soon evolved into the songs that make up Blue Weekend, which is produced by Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire, Björk, Brian Eno) and will follow their 2017 second album Visions of a Life, which won the 2018 Mercury Prize Award.
Despite the band not releasing new music over the past couple of years, Rowsell did contribute vocals to Mura Masa's "Teenage Headache Dreams" last year. 2020 also saw guitarist Joff Oddie release his debut solo album To Mr Fahey.
