The Windmill in Brixton have announced that Lucky, one of the dogs that sat on top of the music venue, has died.

After the passing of Windmill Brixton's Rottweiler Ben in 2015, known to many as 'roof dog', the music venue and pub has announced that Lucky, another one of their roof dogs, has passed away.

Lucky lived for nine years, and this afternoon the music venue shared an image of Lucky with the caption, "Sad news. Lucky 2012-2021 #istillbelieveinroofdog".

Just last summer Will Hodgkinson released a book paying tribute to the venue and its roof dogs, titled Roof Dog: A Short History of the Windmill, and during an interview with Joyzine, Hodgkinson spoke a little bit about Lucky, saying, "I can’t say I got on massively well with Lucky. She growled at me when I sat down to talk with Seamus. Perhaps she sensed my fear of dogs, which has been there ever since I was four-years-old and got chased up the stairs by a rabid poodle. I think the roof is the best place for all of the Windmill’s Roof Dogs, in fact. Ben the Rottweiler is the one most people remember and by all accounts he was a bit of a ladies’ dog - he was famous for charming the prettiest girls in the place - but also somewhat prejudiced. On one infamous incident he took exception to a bunch of French goths who were sitting out the front one day. He let his displeasure be known the best way a dog on a roof can: by pissing all over them."

Some people have paid tribute to Lucky on Twitter, with one user writing, "Man, this is sad news. I loved watching Lucky on the roof whilst waiting to head in for Anna Calvi.....Lucky was an amazing sight and made the visit to the Windmill a memorable one. Run wild Lucky." Another user recalled, "RIP. He threw a can of dog food off the roof at me one time."

Windmill Brixton recently reached its £95,000 target via a crowdfunder to secure its future following the coronavirus pandemic.
