Wiley's new Godfather III album is his last
Godfather III is Wiley's follow up to 2018's Godfather II, and Wiley has rescheduled the release numerous times over the past year.
Today, Wiley has finally released his new album, and in a new interview with The Guardian, he reveals it's his last LP as Wiley, "I’m 41, I don’t want to try and fit in with kids. I just need to not let my genre die on the way out."
He also explains what happened to his Full Circle album that was due to feature Nicki Minaj, Future, Donae'o, Nafe Smallz, Lotto Ash, Tion Wayne, Mist, and more, "I was on a roll and Full Circle, with all its international features – that was going to be nuts. That was my dream come true, as an urban artist. But no one wanted me to do it: the industry looked up and said: 'Ah, no, not him again. Get him out of here'. I was really upset that it didn’t get to surface."
Wiley adds of his decision to finish Godfather III after Full Circle's cancellation, "When they blocked Full Circle, I made it my goal to make sure the grime scene wheels are spinning before I leave. I need those wheels to be spinning."
The godfather of grime also speaks about his feud with Stormzy that happened earlier this year, and saw both rappers release multiple diss tracks at each other, "I’ve spoken to Stormzy, I’ve got love for him. I just wish he hadn’t jumped in the way to defend Ed; that’s the only reason it happened. Ed Sheeran, England’s golden boy – he can use you, but you’re not allowed to use him."
