White Denim frontman James Petralli is set to release a solo LP as Bop English

29 January 2015, 12:21 | Written by Laurence Day

White Denim frontman James Petralli is to release his debut solo album Constant Bop under a new guise called Bop English.

Pertralli's divulged an array of details about the record, as well as a stream of the lead single "Dani's Blues (It Was Beyond Our Control)".

It's a hugely collaborative record, featuring members of White Denima and Shearwater, and Petralli's spent the past four years working on it (between other commitments).

In the press release, there's an explanation of the moniker 'Bop English': "[it] stems from a series of events earlier in James’ life, when he befriended Andy Pickett, a drifter he played music with. After James had left for college in Nacogdoches in the summer of ’99, he heard through a friend back home that Andy was struggling with employment. James drove home, found Andy and offered to share his college room with him. Andy ended up writing a book, and what Andy dictated, James typed. The end result was ‘The Chaperito Street Metaphor’, which Andy dedicated to Bop English. When James asked who Bop English was, Andy’s response was “that’s you man!”"

Bop English's debut record Constant Bop will be released through Blood and Biscuits 13 April.
