Watch These New Puritans' new animated video for “V (Island Song)”
These New Puritans have unveiled a new video for their next single ‘V (Island Song)’ from their third album Field Of Reeds.
Directed by PICNIC and with a narrative written by frontman Jack Barnett, the clip follows the story of a girl who is served on a plate to cannibalistic party-goers.
Barnett revealed that his ideas for the video worked better in animation. He said: “While we were making Field of Reeds I’d have these ideas of images – events, funny things and characters – linked to the songs. When it came to making a video for ‘V (Island Song)’, animation was a way to do something with all these ideas that would be impossible to film in reality. I was influenced a little bit by stuff like Blue Jam – we used to use stuff from that as an intro tape for our gigs – but mostly it was just stuff I’d noted down when I was working on the songs.”
There is also coincidental imagery of a wrecking ball in the style of Miley Cyrus in the video, to which Barnett said: ”It was funny, with the wrecking balls, because when the video was almost finished, obviously I saw the Miley Cyrus thing—me and her must be tuned to the same wavelength somehow.”
‘V (Island Song)’ will be released on 18 November. Watch the video below:
