Watch the trailer for the upcoming Metallica 3D movie
At the San Diego Comic-con this weekend, Metallica premiered the trailer to their 3D ‘half concert film/half post-apocalyptic thriller’ Through the Never, which will be released theatrically 9 August.
The film’s director, Nimród Antal said in a press release last year, “Metallica has always been a huge part of my life, and it’s an incredible opportunity when we get to work with our heroes. We are going to harness the powerful and almighty energy of Metallica’s live shows, inject a narrative into it, and shoot it in 3D to elevate the entire experience.”
Drummer Lars Ulrich said of the director, “I’ve been a fan of Nimróds since his first Hungarian film, Kontroll, showed up at Cannes in 2004 and blew everybody away,” adding, “I’ve watched with excitement his career in Hollywood blossom over the last few years. Within five minutes of meeting him I was addicted to his enthusiasm, his take on the creative process and his ‘thinking outside of the box’ personality. Let’s get on with it!”
In an interview with Collider, film star Dane DeHaan said, “It’s unlike anything that I’ve ever seen before; it’s almost like a concert movie meets The Wall meets Metallica.”
As for the film, it looks epic and masculine, in a P90X sort of way, befitting of Metallica’s tank top and ripped-jean cult.
