While a whole bucket load of bands lovingly pilfer the annals of noisy guitar music – step forward Yuck; take a bow Ringo Deathstarr – no one until now has taken it upon themselves to resurrect the visceral ear-gore of Steve Albini’s Big Black. Nobly, Toronto’s Odonis Odonis have unleashed a glorious, jarring nastiness that fuelled Albini’s sonic fury. Their debut album Hollandaze is a big kick in the cods – sexy feedback, electric-shock guitars and primed with jolting energy. Okay, bandleader Dan Tzenos doesn’t rage with quite the same level of villainy as Albini in his prime, but Hollandaze is an epic joyride into oblivion.
Odonis Odonis’ debut album Hollandaze is out on November 7th via the ever fabulous FatCat. Watch the video for the scuzzy thunderbolt of ‘Blood Feast’ here as a lovely TLOBF exclusive.
