Watch Megafaun cover Johnny Cash with Justin Vernon and The Grateful Dead with John Darnielle
Tuesday night, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon played guitar alongside Megafaun for their set at The Pinhook in Durham, North Carolina. The following night, he joined in again along with The Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle and Hiss Golden Messenger’s Mike Taylor for a set that included a few noteworthy covers.
The first of three videos below features Darnielle singing a cover of The Grateful Dead’s “Friend of the Devil.” And if you were bummed that Tuesday night’s performance didn’t feature any Vernon vocals, you’re in luck, as the second video features the Bon Iver frontman taking the lead for a cover of Johnny Cash’s “Unchained.” Last up is footage of Taylor joining in for a performance of “Mahogany Dread,” which will appear on the forthcoming Hiss Golden Messenger LP via Merge.
