Watch Lithuanian artist Tadas Maksimovas turn his own hair into a violin
Lithuanian artist Tadas Maksimovas was due for a haircut, so he did what people sometimes do in that situation—put some glue in his hair and, with assistance from violinist Eimantas Belickas, created strings, ran them through a violin and, physically, used his head to make music.
In the video below, you’ll see an edited-down take on the process (which actually took a few hours altogether), where Belickas glues Maksimovas’ locks and runs them through the instrument, tunes it up and gives a quick demonstration of the human-hair violin as its still attached to Maskimovas’ head before cutting the instrument free from the artist’s dome.
When asked by Noisey how it felt to have someone make music out of his hair, Maksimovas responded:
My hair roots are really sensitive. I had to remind Eimantas not to pull the violin too hard. I didn’t care about my hair then, I just wanted to keep my scalp on me. It was a bizarre too - not because of the sound - but the way we looked. The image of 2 guys standing back to back while one plays a violin made out of the other’s hair while still attached to his head - it’s not that usual is it?
