Watch Kendrick Lamar's phenomenal performance of "The Blacker The Berry"/"Alright"
Kendrick Lamar won last night's GRAMMY Awards by taking home the biggest golden haul and with his live performance.
Lamar took to the stage at Los Angeles' Staples Center shortly after being handed the gong for Best Rap Album (for his 2015 LP To Pimp A Butterfly) and performed both "The Blacker The Berry" and "Alright".
The performance included a brand new track (or additional "Alright" verse) that discussed "modern day slavery" and death.
Speaking to Billboard about the segment, the awards' director Ken Ehrlich said:
"Kendrick came to us and said that we live in a time where these issues confront us every day and that it’s important that they be given a public forum, and he would like to use his x number of minutes to create a great performance that is consistent with his this year. It is overtly political and it is overtly provocative, and I think if nothing else it’s going to give people something to think about and talk about."
