Warpaint's jennylee brings solo album to East London in its entirety
After releasing her debut solo album, Right On! at the end of last year, the woman best known as the bassist for Warpaint, brought her solo show to London last night in fit of screeches and dancing silhouettes.
Walking onto the stage wrapped up in a black hoody and with a quick greeting to the crowd, jennyLee launched into a set laced with haunting screams, pounding basslines and off-kilter energy.
Playing through the whole album in order from start to finish, there was little room for breath. Tracks such as "boom boom" and "white devil", as well as a cover of Warpaint’s "CC", proved to be highlights of the set and showed jennylee's adept ability to hold a crowd on her own as she darted across the stage whilst howling and hollering at the audience.
Although in places it felt a bit rough around the edges and as though there's still room for jennylee to continue to develop as a solo artist, the performance was a strong statement that saw her step out of the shadows of Warpaint into a thrilling, and at times unnerving, light.
