Warpaint cover Gang of Four's "Paralysed" for tribute album
Warpaint have released a cover of Gang of Four's "Paralysed", the latest track to be shared from the tribute album The Problem of Leisure: A Celebration of Andy Gill and Gang of Four.
The group's cover of Gang of Four's Solid Gold album opener "Paralysed" follows previous cuts from the tribute album including 3D's remix of "Where the Nightingale Sings" featuring Nova Twins and Serj Tankian and Tom Morello's cover of "Natural’s Not in It".
Warpaint's cover is produced by jennylee, who says, ""The change will do me good." ("Damaged Goods"). Best piece of advice that pretty much changed my life. Not to mention Dave Allen’s bass playing. Also changed me forever. Made me wanna play bass."
jennylee adds, "It was cool to get inside of "Paralysed", and for Gang of Four to give us freedom to freak out in our way...it was a beautiful opportunity and we're SOOO excited, it's an honour actually, to be a part of Andy’s tribute."
Gill's widow Catherine Mayer says, "Andy loved the way Warpaint created not only songs but atmospheres, without sacrificing drive and danceability. The marriage of their unique sound with "Paralysed", on the face of it one of the least likely dance tracks ever, is spectacular. The lyrics are also incredibly resonant at this moment in time where so many people feel helpless in the face of regressive populism and disfiguring inequalities."
Mayer will be donating proceeds from Warpaint's cover of "Paralysed" to the UK Women’s Equality Party, which she co-founded.
The Problem of Leisure: A Celebration of Andy Gill and Gang of Four will also include contributions from IDLES, La Roux, Everything Everything, The Dandy Warhols, Flea and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gary Numan and more.
