Warpaint announce new LP Heads Up, hear first single "New Song"
Warpaint are back - hear "New Song", the first taste from upcoming third record Heads Up, now.
"New Song" is a bold move away from the swirling, psychedelia - it's brash and poppy forces you to get up off of your feet and shake all your limbs to the beat. It's the first official taste of the band's follow up to their self-titled 2014 record.
Jacob Bercovici, who worked with the group on their first Exquisite Corpse EP, worked with Warpaint on production duties. I was recorded at the House On The Hill studio in L.A., their home studios, and Papap's Palace.
"The doors were a little more open in terms of what was accepted and what wasn’t, because we were sharing ideas so rapidly between us," says drummer Stella Mozgawa process.
“Everybody was allowed to have their space, time and creative freedom with songs and figure out, ‘I wonder what the best notes would be? I wonder what the best would be to play?” adds bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg. “Everybody got to sit and go, 'What do I want to do to this? What’s my part? What’s My Role? How can I make it the best?' I feel really proud of what we made - almost surprised. When we were making it, I was like 'I wonder what this is going to sound like? How’s this going to come together so nicely?' I feel so proud of it, and like its an evolution of our band, It sounds like a mature version of Warpaint.”
The group teased their comeback last week with a brief snippet of new music and the album title.
Heads Up is out 23 September via Rough Trade. Warpaint have already announced a UK tour, including a headline stop at Bristol's Simple Things festival.
