Warner Music intern sues company after unpaid placement
A former intern at Warner Music-owned Atlantic Records in the U.S is suing the company for not reimbursing him during his seven month-long stay at the label.
Justin Henry of New York state is seeking compensation for his time at the company which stretched from October 2007 to May 2008. He claims that his job specification, which is said to have involved largely administrative tasks, breaks New York employment laws and minimum wage criteria.
According to The Wrap, Henry states in the lawsuit that he worked daily at Atlantic from around 10am in the morning to 5pm/6pm at night, sometimes including overtime.
The prosecutors also say that it only became company policy to not pay interns from around three months before Henry started the job. He promises to seek compensation for all other interns at the company during his stay if successful.
No response has yet been given from either Warner or Atlantic and it’s not known whether Henry was aware the role would be unpaid before or during his internship.
