Iceland's Vök return with the pounding electro cut "If I Was", new EP for May
We first caught Vök at Iceland Airwaves back in 2013, riding high on winning Músíktilraunir - a prestigious battle of the bands which the likes of Mammút, Of Monsters And Men and Samaris have also topped.
At those shows the Icelandic outfit - who hail from Hafnarfjörður, a small town on the outskirts of Reykjavík - were still an embryonic proposition and their sound hinted at what might happen but never quite got there. One year later, they finally brought it and were a standout of 2014's Airwaves, packing out the vast Gamla Bio venue with queues down the street.
“If I Was” is a new song from the Circles EP, due out in May on the same day they play a UK show at Brighton's Great Escape Festival. The EP was recorded in their home studio and benefits from the hand of GusGus man and John Grant-collaborator Biggi Veira. The track's gently pounding electro and Margrét Rán Magnúsdóttir's powerful vocal are a beautifully complicit partnership; watch the video below.
