Universal are trying to shut down a Smiths/Charlie Brown mash-up blog
Last month, we reported on This Charming Charlie, a Tumblr that combines some of Morrissey’s lyrics with Charles Schultz’s iconic cartoon, Peanuts. A harmless joke, we thought. But it looks like The Smiths’ record label didn’t agree.
As CoS report, Universal Music Group are now trying to shut down the blog, presumably for copyright infringement, lobbying the micro-blogging site to remove some of the Charlie Brown/Smiths mash-up comics. A recent post on the site reads:
“The Smiths licensing company (Universal Music Publishing Group) has started requesting posts be removed from This Charming Charlie. So far 6 posts have been removed, and it is increasing every hour. If you like the page, please save copies of the comics to your own computer.”
You can view some of the existing comics here, as well as above and below.
