America’s largest vinyl press United Record Pressing expands thanks to resurgence of vinyl
In a Billboard interview published today, United Record Pressing’s director of marketing Jay Millar stated that, thanks to the resurgence of vinyl and things like Record Store Day, the company is expanding to add 16 new presses to their current 22 by the end of the year.
Millar noted that the perception of vinyl prior to its resurgence in the early aughts, when many presumed the industry was dead or dying, was mostly misinformed, noting that jukeboxes, radio stations, DJs and record stores were still heavily reliant on the medium, though moreso in the form of 12” singles than full albums. But notes that this expansion is only thanks to vinyl’s resurgence, especially over the past few years since the inception of Record Store Day in 2007: “I think the vinyl resurgence was definitely already happening, and it brought on Record Store Day, which greatly enhanced it. It’s amazing how it keeps growing year-over-year.”
You might remember United Record Pressing from their role in Jack White’s single-day record release just last month for Record Store Day.
