The ERA reports that vinyl sales have already hit their 2013 high, and are sure to top 1,000,000 by the end of the year.
So far this year, buoyed by Arctic Monkeys' AM and a heap of reissues (mainly Led Zeppelin), over 825,000 vinyl records have been bought in the UK.
ERA Director General Kim Bayley commented:
"This is an extraordinary turnaround. Independent retailers were first to identify the untapped potential for vinyl and made it the focus of Record Store Day. With record labels now making more vinyl available, this trend shows no sign of abating."
However, this is still only 3% of physical music sales, with a whopping 97% still CD.
Despite Urban Outfitters' valiant attempts, Amazon have been the largest sole entity behind this, though independent retailers still retain a large market share when grouped together.
