UK student says she's "over the moon" after Taylor Swift donates money to help her go to university
18-year-old student Vitoria Mario is feeling "over the moon" after Taylor Swift donated a generous amount of money to help her pay for her university education in the UK.
The student, who currently lives in Tottenham, North London, moved to the UK four years ago from Portugal, so isn't eligible to receive maintenance loans or grants to pay to study Mathematics at Warwick University.
Swift made the huge contribution of £23,373 via a GoFundMe page yesterday (20 August), and wrote a message with her donation, "Vitoria, I came across your story online and am so inspired by your drive and dedication to turning your dreams into reality. I want to gift you the rest of your goal amount. Good luck with everything you do! Love, Taylor."
Mario has already reacher her target of £40,000, despite just setting up the fundraising page at the beginning of the month.
Speaking to Sky News today (21 August) about Swift's donation, Mario said, "I'm just glad, I'm just over the moon definitely."
Mario also revealed that she found out about her donation when she was at church, "I was at church and I just couldn't believe it because my friend texted me and I was like, 'Okay, maybe she donated', i don't know, maybe £2k or £5k if she was being really nice. When I saw the full amount raised, I just couldn't believe it."
